Kanazawa Gold

While the Tohoku earthquake in March 2011 shook the entire world, nothing in Kanazawa has changed. The citizens live their daily lives as usual, but are saddened to see the number of visitors drop, in spite of the fact that the levels of radioactivity here, 400km from Fukushima, are perfectly normal.
This time we present a newsletter about Kanazawa gold. Gold is an inescapable central theme for Kanazawa, as “Kanazawa” itself means “marsh of gold”, and 99% of the gold leaf produced in Japan is produced here.
On the menu:
-A list of gold leaf ateliers and shops, presenting a great variety of gold leaf products, offering workshop visits and try-out experiences, or luxury beauty treatments.
- Discover the art of maki-e at Gallery Kyoka, with a maki-e experience workshop and a great display of unique masterpieces.
-Otomoro, the oldest restaurant of Kanazawa: faithful keeper of the local culinary tradition and history.
- Asadaya ryokan, which has been welcoming travelers for 150 years with the hospitality of the geisha district of Kanazawa.
- Kinjoro restaurant/ryokan, for original wedding receptions and banquets in traditional Japanese style.
